Rhinebeck Engages Students in Climate Conscious Car-Free, Car-Lite Day

Community organizers and Rhinebeck parents, in association with Climate Smart Rhinebeck, worked with the schools to create a Car Free/Car Lite day on September 22nd.

CLS Parent, Angela Basile and Rhinebeck Village Trustee, Vanessa Bertozzi approached the district about collaborating with the schools for this wonderful event. Principal King and 5th grade grade teacher Ms. Collins engaged the CLS students in gearing up for the day. As students made their trips to school, Rhinebeck Sergeant Dunn and Officers Scattergood and Imperato assisted with crossing and road safety.

Special appearances at the Lions Mini Park by Mr. Morrisey and Mr. Yarnell was a highlight for the students. Many students passed through the mini-park on skateboards, scooters, bikes and walking shoes. High school and middle school students enjoyed some treats and the CLS students enjoyed their bright yellow t-shirts, treats and the feeling of togetherness.

We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future!

Special thank you to Climate Smart Rhinebeck and to our supportive families for making this possible and to 3rd grader Sam DelPizzo who has kept climate awareness at the forefront (and who designed the Car-Free Day flyer logo).
