What is English as a New Language?
English as a New Language is an instructional delivery model that supports the English language development for identified Multilingual Learners.
Students are identified as needing ENL services through a screening process that includes interviews and an individual assessment (NYSITELL) as outlined by guidance from the New York State Department of Education. Each year students receiving ENL services are assessed in their command of the English language in four domains: speaking, listening, reading and writing through the NYSESLAT.
