Course Description

Course Description

This is a course involving applications of statistics and statistical analyses.  Topics include descriptive statistics, probability, probability distributions, binomial distributions, hypotheses testing, confidence intervals, correlation and regression, and contingency tables.

Elementary Statistics is an intensive course that involves reading and understanding concepts, as well as expressing them verbally and through the written word.  It is very much a critical thinking course, where the mathematics you learn is a tool that allows you to interpret data and then to make and educated decision.  The course demands a work ethic and that you take responsibility for your own learning.

Successful completion of this course will give students a working knowledge of the mathematics, which will be appropriate to several curricula, not necessarily related to the field of mathematics, but to various fields of study.  The use of a graphing calculator, specifically the TI-84 / TI-84plus is STRONGLY recommended.
