Important News

Update regarding Interscholastic Athletics:

Last Friday afternoon,  Governor Cuomo’s office cleared “high-risk” sports to begin as early as February 1st with the approval of  local Health Departments.  For our winter sports, this means that there is a possibility that we could have an abbreviated JV and Varsity Basketball Season, pending local Health Department and School District approval.  In order to prepare for the possibility of these approvalsand an abbreviated basketball season,  signups for those sports are now open on FamilyID.

With approval from the Dutchess County Health Department and the School District, we would plan to begin the season with three days of try-outs to select our teams, beginning as early as February 1. There will be multiple sessions of tryouts each day to limit the capacity of students in the gym.   Once the teams are selected, they would have practices or games during the month of February.  Since basketball involves physical interaction, and given the context of the global pandemic, all practices and games would be conducted in accordance with the following safety protocols:

·        Students will be required to conduct their Health Screening prior to coming to practice/tryouts as they would prior to coming to school.

·        Masks will be worn at all times

·        Masks breaks/water breaks will be included in practice plans. During this time students will maintain appropriate social distancing

·        Students will be responsible for bringing their own filled water bottles

·        Sanitizer will be available to all participants and they will be encouraged to sanitize their hands throughout the practices/tryouts

·        Reversible Pinnies will be handed out for the duration of the season

·        Balls will be sanitized at intervals throughout practices

·        Deliberate contact (high-fives, handshakes, hugs) that are not part of the game will not allowed.

·        Spectators will not be allowed at practices, and they will not be allowed at games.  Games will be broadcast through our NFHS network.

·         The health departments in the region will monitor whether there has been a more-transmissible variant of COVID-19 identified in the area, as well as the percent of local residents who test positive.

We will update you when we receive more information from the Health Department.

Signups for JV/Varsity Boys & Girls Basketball are open now on FamilyID.
