Bulkeley Middle School Seeks Presenters for Artists in Action Day on Friday, March 22, 2019

Each spring, at Bulkeley Middle School, we invite parents and community members into school to share their work, skills, knowledge and experiences with our students. These special days center broadly around a common theme and occur on a three-year rotation so that by the time a student moves on to high school, he/she will have experienced each of the three days: Artists in Action Day, Career Day, and Health & Wellness Day. This year we will be running Artists in Action Day on Friday, March 22, 2019. We hope to provide opportunities for students to imagine possibilities for themselves, assist them in making good choices, and foster the development of motivation and persistence needed to succeed in their efforts.

Our program will begin at 8:00 am with a keynote speaker. Activities and presentations will begin at 8:30 am and end at 11:39 am. During this time, small groups of students (10-15), accompanied by teachers and staff, will rotate throughout the building to different presentations. You will be with students for seven 20-25 minute sessions.

Presenters are asked to bring props, tools, materials, models, examples… making the program as “hands-on” and interactive as possible. We will provide a parent helper for each presenter, if requested, and are available to help provide talking points, discussion topics, equipment, etc. Students are dismissed at 11:40 am at which time presenters are invited to a luncheon with the BMS staff.

Without your help, we are not able to provide this opportunity. In fact, two years ago, for the first time in 12 years, we were forced to cancel our program due to a lack of presenters. If you are interested and available on March 22, 2019, please consider sharing your work, skills, knowledge and/or experience with our students.

Please provide the following information to the BMS main office or to Ms. Susan St. Clair, BMS Computer Teacher, at 871-5500 x 5210 or [email protected] or to Mr. John Kemnitzer, BMS Principal, so that we may contact you with more information as the date nears, or if you should you have further questions. Thank you!
