Plans and Specifications for the Rhinebeck School District Capital Project, Approved by Voters in December 2016, Await State Education Department Approval
The Architectural and Engineering designs for the Rhinebeck Capital Project, approved by the voters in December 2016 by a wide margin, were completed and the Construction Documents (Plans and Specifications) submitted, on schedule, to the State Education Department (SED) on June 30, 2017. SED’s review process for Capital Projects includes three separate reviews – Project Management, Architectural, and Mechanical. All three approvals are required for the project to be approved by SED.
Project Management approval of the Rhinebeck Capital Project was granted shortly after the project was submitted to SED. The Architectural portion of the project was reviewed by SED in September and Architectural approval for the project was granted on October 19, 2017. The SED Mechanical reviewers are lagging behind the Architectural reviewers by about 4 months. It is anticipated that the Mechanical portion of the project will be reviewed in January 2018 and that the project will receive Mechanical approval shortly thereafter. This is slightly ahead of the originally projected SED approval timeframe.
Once SED has fully approved project, a Building Permit will be issued by SED and the District can then publically bid the construction contracts. After the construction bids are received, the Board of Education will award the construction contracts in late winter/early spring of 2018. Construction is expected to commence in Spring/early Summer 2018 and continue through Fall of 2019. This is in keeping with the construction schedule that was originally planned for the project.
