Updated 9/22/15: District Officials Continue Efforts To Improve New School Transportation System To Eliminate Roll-out Issues

We are happy to report again today that morning bus runs to BMS/RHS arrived on time, with the exception of one run that arrived several minutes late. All CLS buses arrived on time this morning.  This afternoon, all BMS/RHS and CLS bus runs departed their schools on time.  We will continue to keep you updated as promised until our transportation program is providing satisfactory service for all students and parents every day.

We also want to pass along that Allways East is in the process of training several new bus drivers who should be able to assume regular routes shortly.  We will contact you to let you know when this occurs. We anticipate that a full complement of trained bus drivers, supported by several substitutes who will cover our regular drivers who are unable to drive on a particular day, will enable the entire transportation program to run more smoothly. Regardless, a sufficient number of adequate, skilled and well-trained, and empathetic drivers are the key to an effective transportation program.

In addition, Mr. Burnell has scheduled a meeting with several of Allways East’s most experienced drivers tomorrow to review several of the routes that have been the most challenging, in an effort to make tweaks that will improve service.  We are planning a mailing and e-mail blast on Thursday to parents whose children will be affected by these modifications effective Monday, September 28th.

We also appreciate the feedback we received from parents and community members at this evening’s Board of Education meeting on the topic of our transportation program. A number of useful ideas and suggestions were raised by those in attendance that will assist us to improve our transportation program so that is performing consistently satisfactorily as soon as possible and allows us to work toward regaining the trust of our parents and students. Parents with any specific questions about their child’s transportation, specifically about their bus route or schedule, ongoing or new, now or in the future, should continue to call:

Mary Ann Coe, Allways East Contract Manager – (845) 204-9660

Sue McCormack, RCSD Transportation Clerk – (845) 871-5520 ext 5527

Tom Burnell, RCSD Assistant Superintendent for Support Services – (845) 871-5520 ext 5523

Also, contact Mr. Joseph Phelan, Superintendent of Schools, at (845) 871-5520 ext 5522 or at [email protected] as needed. We will continue to keep you updated regarding our efforts to improve our transportation services every day. Thank you again for your patience, your constructive criticism, your support, and your understanding.
