Ella Romeo, Drew Cuyler and the Rhinebeck High School Class of 2027 are hoping the senior sunrise is just the start of many senior year memories. The senior class watched the sun rise at Burger Hill in Rhinebeck on Sept. 18.

“It was a great morning,” said Cuyler. “The weather was great. You couldn’t ask for a better morning.”

The seniors arrived at Burger Hill at 6 a.m., watched the sun come up just before 7 a.m. and returned to the high school for an outdoor breakfast prepared by parents of the senior class. The breakfast included tea, iced coffee, homemade muffins, bagels, yogurt, fruit and granola.

“It was delicious,” said Romeo, president of the senior class. “It was really sweet they did this for us. They’ve been helping us and supporting us through high school. It was special and memorable.”

The senior sunrise was the first senior event of the new school year.

“Gathering at Burger Hill for sunrise was a meaningful way for our Rhinebeck seniors to celebrate the start of their final year together,” said Katie Andersen, senior class advisor and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

“Surrounded by the beauty of nature, the rising sun became symbolic of the journey they are taking together. Sharing a beautiful breakfast provided by families added to the experience, creating space for connection, laughter and memories they will carry with them.”

Romeo and Cuyler said many of their fellow seniors participated in the sunrise and breakfast, setting a tone for the school year. The senior class will be having a bake sale at the homecoming bonfire, one of many events to raise money for their senior trip.

“It sets a tone for how many people want to show up this year, how many people want to help us raise money to fund our senior trip and how many people want to come help us reach our goal of going on a fantastic senior trip,” said Romeo of the sunrise and breakfast. “It definitely lets everyone know we want to have a fun year and have a memorable senior year of high school.”

Cuyler added, “I feel the community we have this year is going to be great. I feel everyone is really connected. Everyone is just happy to be together and enjoy their last year of high school.”
