Chase Connolly and Jed Davis sat in the hallway enjoying what they just purchased at the Scholastic Book Fair at Chancellor Livingston Elementary School. The Rhinebeck Parent Teacher Student Organization sponsored the popular event that continues to meet its goal.

“The goal of the Scholastic Book Fair is to create a fun and exciting event for the students and teachers at CLS,” said PTSO President Michelle Duval. “We hope that the students continue their love for reading and discover new books. The students and teachers really look forward to the book fair.”

Connolly and Davis, both fourth graders, each purchased books from a popular series. Each student purchased a Dog Man book, and Connolly bought a Dog Man pen and poster. Davis purchased a book from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and erasers.

“I just really like their books and movie,” said Connolly of Dog Man. “I’ve probably read all of their books more than twice. I can get smarter and learn new words by reading books.”

Davis added, “I wanted to get new books for my collection at home. When I’m bored at night, I can just read and it will consume all the time I have. It calms my nerves and it will help me in the future.”

The Rhinebeck Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) has sponsored the book fair for more than 20 years. Duval said event chairpersons Emily Wiesenthal and Sharagim Kemp began organizing the fair months before the event. The Scholastic Book Fair featured popular children’s books, school supplies and posters.

The five-day event featured an ice cream social where students and parents visited the bookstore to purchase items.

“During book fair week at school, students come down with their class and make their book fair wish lists,” said Duval. “They bring their lists home to their families and then come back on ice cream social night to shop and enjoy an ice cream treat. The students look forward to bringing their families in and it gives them a chance to show them their school and what the book fair has to offer.”
