Megan Michie recalled a special era of high school softball in Dutchess County and New York State after the 2011 Rhinebeck High School graduate was inducted into the New York State High School Softball Hall of Fame on June 20.
Michie pitched Rhinebeck to four state final fours and state championships in 2009 and 2010 over her six seasons of varsity softball. The three-time, first-team all-state player was the sixth graduate of a Dutchess County high school to be voted into the state softball hall of fame.
“I never could have imagined the incredible journey that Rhinebeck softball would provide,” said Michie. “To be remembered almost a quarter-century later for my high school softball career is an incredible honor and truly a testament to the tremendous community who supported me and Rhinebeck softball along the way.
“Election into the state softball hall of fame means an opportunity for me to remember the nail-biting games, hours practicing in the yard with my dad, dedicated coaches and incredible teammates who all contributed to the amazing memories and made this moment possible. I am so proud to have the chance once again to represent Rhinebeck softball at the state level.”
Michie played volleyball and softball for four years at Colby College, where she majored in both classics and biology with a concentration in molecular biology/biochemistry. She was named the Class Marshal for graduating in 2015 with the highest grade point average.
Michie graduated in May 2026 from the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine Medical Scientist Training Program with both her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees and is now beginning her five-year medical residency in diagnostic radiology at Washington University in St. Louis.
“In the future, I hope to practice radiology in an academic hospital to be able to combine taking care of patients with teaching at a medical school and remaining involved in molecular imaging research to help improve diagnostic and treatment capabilities,” she said.
Michie said attending Rhinebeck schools prepared her for this educational journey.
“The high quality of education starting from elementary school but especially in my high school Latin and AP science courses directly led to my success at the college level and provided an important foundation for my continued pursuit of education in science and medicine,” she said.
“I have no doubt that the special combination of community support and excellent quality of academic and athletic opportunities in Rhinebeck empowered me to continue pursuing ambitious goals to serve others, which ultimately led to seeking a career as a physician scientist.”
