The Rhinebeck High School Drama Club will bring a board game, movie and play to life in the high school auditorium with its production of “Clue” on Nov. 1 and 2. The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. on both nights.
“I think it was an excellent choice. I really like the play,” said junior Elliot VanSteenburg, who plays the role of Mr. Green. “It’s fast paced and I know we can do it. There’s not much rest between lines and everyone is constantly doing something.”
“Clue” is a board game that became a comedy mystery film in movie theaters and a play on stage. The board game dates back to the 1940s in the United Kingdom. A movie was released in 1985, starring Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull and Lesley Ann Warren.
“Clue” became an off-Broadway musical in 1997.
“It’s a very fast, crazy and elaborate play. I’m excited to see what the finished product looks like,” said freshman Augustus Morgan of the Rhinebeck production.
Elle Renaldo is the director, and Maia Weiss is the assistant director and producer for Rhinebeck’s production of “Clue.” In the play, six guests are invited to a mansion for dinner, where the host is killed, and the guests and staff become suspects and work together to identify the murderer.
Morgan plays Wadsworth, the butler.
“It’s a very dynamic role,” he said. “He starts off the play a very formal guy, and as things progressively go more and more wrong, you get to see his true nature in how he kind of goes crazy in some cases.”
Daphne Tamm is the cook.
“It’s fun being the cook,” the freshman said. “Even though she dies early on, she gets to do a lot of stuff, walk around and move things. She gets to have fun and when she dies, she has fun, too, because she gets carried across the stage.”
Holly Roberts is working the lights with the stage crew.
“There are lighting cues that need to happen and the lights have to shut off; I’m in charge of that and it’s essential to the mystery factor of the story,” the sophomore said.
Trayse Kasnia-Hernan is playing the role of Mr. Boddy, a wealthy businessman.
“It’s just fun to be a part of the play,” said the senior.
