Information Available For Prospective Board of Education Candidates
Petition forms and an information packet are now available for individuals who wish to become candidates for election to the Board of Education of the Rhinebeck Central School District. This year, voters will be electing two (2) members to the Board of Education, each for a three-year term, commencing July 1, 2014 and expiring on June 30, 2017.
Nominating petitions must be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the District, shall state the name and residence address of each signer and the name and residence address of the candidate. Petition forms may be obtained online at the link below or at the Office of the District Clerk at Chancellor Livingston Elementary School (48 Knollwood Road, Rhinebeck, NY) or at the District Office in the Rhinebeck High School/Middle School (45 North Park Road, Rhinebeck, NY), on weekdays when school is in session, during regular business hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During Spring Recess (April 14-21, 2014), petition forms can be picked up at the District Office on Monday, April 14 and Wednesday, April 16, between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, and on Thursday, April 17, between the hours of 9:00 am and 12:00 noon. Completed petition forms can be dropped off at the District Office on those dates/times, as well as on Monday, April 21, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Prospective candidates should be sure to read the contents of each attachment in order to have important information for pursuing BOE candidacy. Interested parties should contact the District Clerk, Mary Ann Bovee, at 845-871-5570, x-5560 with any questions or to obtain additional information. Completed petition forms must be received by the District Clerk by no later than 5:00 pm on Monday, April 21, 2014.
To qualify as a candidate, an individual must be able to read and write; must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age or older; must be and have been a resident of the district for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year immediately before the election; may not be a current employee of the school board; and may not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office. Individuals signing the petition must be qualified voters of the District. If a person is a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years old, and a resident of the school district for at least 30 days immediately prior to the election at which he or she seeks to vote, then that person satisfies the legal definition of qualified voter, may sign nominating petitions, and is not required to be registered to vote.
The Annual Meeting, Budget Vote and Election will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Bulkeley Middle School Cafeteria, 45 North Park Road, Rhinebeck, NY.
