Board of Education Budget Newsletter Outlines Details of Adopted 2016-17 Budget for Consideration by District Voters on May 17, 2016; State-required Budget Hearing Scheduled for Tues, May 10 at 7:00 pm, Before BOE Meeting
At a Special meeting on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, the Rhinebeck Central School District Board of Education adopted a proposed 2016-17 school district budget for presentation to the District’s voters for their consideration and approval at the Annual Meeting and Budget/Board of Education Member Vote on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 2:00 to 9:00 pm in the Bulkeley Middle School cafeteria. A public budget hearing required by New York State will held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, immediately prior to the BOE meeting that evening and one week before the budget vote.
The proposed 2016-17 school budget under consideration for voter approval includes the expenditure of $32,135,122, a budget-to-budget increase of 1.44% over the current year’s spending plan. The proposed budget will increase the tax levy at a rate of 1.26%.
Under the New York State Tax Levy Cap legislation formula, the Rhinebeck Central School District is limited to a tax levy increase of no more than 1.26% upon the approval of a simple majority of the voters casting ballots on May 17th. The proposed 2016-17 school budget, as adopted by the Board of Education on April 21st, is within the statutory limitation of the Tax Levy Cap formula again this year.
In addition, registered voters will have the opportunity to cast ballots for two vacant Board of Education seats. Steve jenkins and incumbents Deirdre d'Albertis and Laura Schulkind, have filed petitions and their names will be on the ballot for voter consideration.
