Welcome to Chancellor Livingston Elementary School

Facts About Chancellor Livingston Elementary School
Welcome to Chancellor Livingston Elementary School, located in the historic village of Rhinebeck in Dutchess County, New York. Our school was built in 1967 and named after Robert R. Livingston, who was Chancellor of the State of New York, landlord of Clermont, and a diplomat.
Today our school has about 440 students in grades kindergarten through five. Chancellor is a school where students want to attend to learn. Our staff believes that every child will have an equal opportunity for a quality education and that all children can learn. The staff accepts the task of helping to develop responsible students. Besides our strong academic program we have many interesting opportunities to expand and extend student learning in the arts, in our after school activities, and through our enrichment program. Our children learn social skills to become responsible learners and participate in regular morning meetings as we build a community of learners at Chancellor Livingston Elementary School. Some CLS special school events in the past year included:
  • Continuation with the Common Langauge For All initiative (character ed.);
  • Artists and educators who taught folk dancing, songs, puppetry/sculpture, weaving, and Native American customs;
  • A great annual Field Day for all grades;
  • Show Choir performances for community groups;
  • Classes working together with buddy classes on extra special projects;
  • Electives course options from cooking to dance, making mosaics, newspaper, and much more;
  • Enrichment courses for CLS Yearbook and media, Mathematics, Physical Education, STEM education, etc;
  • Field trips to take advantage of the historic and cultural events in the Hudson Valley;
  • Partnerships with local not-for-profit organizations (like the Rhinebeck Science Foundation, and Young Rhinebeck) that help foster growth and expansion of our curriculum
  • New for the 2014-2015 school Year: STEM Lab that will deliver STEM Modules K-5 that feed into the work we are doing at the Middle school
